A natural finish is a test, not a vibe. If it looks like makeup sitting on top of skin, it failed — no matter how much the copy says “natural.”

Natural finish is not “no coverage”

Sheer products hide behind the word natural. MONTEREY uses it to mean the opposite: real coverage that still behaves like skin when light hits it. You should see fewer red patches, not a new surface.

Skin tint through foundation

Wear less as a tint or more as lightweight foundation. The finish is the constant; opacity is what you change. If adding coverage changes the finish from skin to makeup, the build failed.

What cakey actually is

Cakey is texture plus dryness plus too much product in the same place. It is not a moral failing. It is a stopping-point problem. Build only on the mark, keep the rest of the face thin, and the finish stays natural.

How to check a natural finish

  1. Apply, then wait two minutes. Fresh product always looks wetter than worn product.
  2. Turn toward a window. Look at the high planes — forehead, nose, cheekbones.
  3. If those planes look painted, powdery, or plastic, you used too much or the formula is wrong. MONTEREY should still show skin texture.
