Buildable coverage that still looks like skin

Buildable coverage is the method: sheer where skin is already even, stronger where redness and blemishes need it. One product, two stopping points.

What buildable actually means

It does not mean “keep adding until nothing shows.” It means the formula can go from tint to foundation without breaking, pilling, or turning matte-dead. MONTEREY is designed for that range. The user still has to stop.

Why fixed full coverage fails the skin test

A one-opacity foundation treats a cheek with no redness the same as a mark next to the nose. That is efficient for the pan and wrong for the face. Buildable coverage spends pigment like a budget.

The daylight rule

If you only judge coverage in a mirror with warm bulbs, you will over-build. Check near a window. If the built areas still look like skin, you are done — even if a mark is faintly there.

How to build coverage instead of applying full-face opacity

  1. Map the face: even skin, red zones, marks. Coverage is not uniform.
  2. Lay a thin base everywhere so tone matches.
  3. Add a second pass only on the map — then stop. Full-face second coats are how buildable products become cakey.
